Across the accredited 3-day course, IOSH Managing Safely®️ delivers the knowledge needed for those in positions of responsibility to identify, evaluate and control workplace risks. This includes assessing the effectiveness and performance of the health and safety systems already in place across your organisation.
The IOSH Managing Safely®️ course was developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This globally chartered body provides internationally recognised qualifications that promote high health and safety standards in the workplace, allowing employers to provide leading health and safety training to their staff.

IOSH Managing Safely®️ is suitable for anyone responsible for other employees such as those in managerial or supervisory positions.
It is appropriate for staff in these positions across all sectors, industries, and markets. You don’t need any existing qualifications to study the course, or any existing health and safety knowledge.
IOSH Working Safely includes 4 units of study:
Module 1: Introducing working safely
Module 2: Defining hazard and risk
Module 3: Identifying common hazards
Module 4: Improving safety performance
The duration of the IOSH Managing Safely®️ course depends on the study method:
When studied through classroom, virtual classroom or in-house learning, the course is 3 days.
When studied through E-learning, we recommend spending between 20 and 25 hours on the course.
Our classroom course timings are 09:00-17:00 Monday – Friday.
After completing this course, candidates will have a firm grasp of the following areas:
Understand the importance of managing health and safety in the workplace
Define the key terms relating to health and safety
Understand how to assess, reduce, identify, and control risks in the workplace
Measure health and safety within your own workplace
Apply best practice principles to your organisation’s health and safety systems
IOSH Managing Safely®️ is assessed in 2 parts:
A Multiple-choice test of 30 questions. There are 60 points available and you need to score 60% to pass, so the pass mark is 36 out of 60.
A Practical assessment, in which participants must show how to apply the knowledge they have gained throughout the course to real-life situations. You must complete the risk assessment within 2 weeks of finishing the initial course.
An IOSH Managing Safely®️ certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of both parts of the assessment.
How long is the IOSH Managing Safely course?
The duration of the IOSH Managing Safely course really depends on your study method. When the course is studied via a classroom, virtual classroom or in-house, the course will take 3 days to complete. When carried out via E-learning, you will need between 20 and 25 hours to fully work through the course.
How difficult is IOSH managing safely?
Knowing the proper guidelines to prevent accidents and create a safe working environment in any industry can be challenging and time-consuming, but IOSH managing safely offers a comprehensive course that gives you necessary guidance on how to do so efficiently. No prior knowledge of health and safety is required for the IOSH managing safely course, but a good standard of English is recommended.
What level qualification is IOSH Managing Safely?
The course itself is a level 2 qualification. This is equivalent to a GCSE qualification.
What is the pass mark for IOSH Managing Safely?
The minimum pass park for the IOSH managing safely exam is 36 out of 60.
Do I need to pay for IOSH Membership?
Candidates do not need to buy IOSH membership to complete one of our IOSH courses.
Are there any entry requirements for an IOSH Course?
There are no entry requirements for IOSH Working Safely, Managing Safely or Leading Safely.
